Hoses, tubes and fittings carry coolant, oil, fuel and air between the components of an engine and its installation, and a failure in any of them can stop the engine as surely as a mechanical fault. This group covers coolant hoses and clamps, oil supply and drain lines, fuel lines and injector pipes, charge air pipes, and the unions and adaptors that join them. On generating sets, flexible connections at the engine allow for movement on anti-vibration mounts, and a rigid connection where a flexible one is specified transmits vibration into pipework and fittings. High-pressure injector pipes should not be bent, reshaped or reused after removal, as work-hardening at the sealing ends leads to cracking under pressure.

The engine moves on its anti-vibration mounts. A rigid connection to fixed pipework transmits that movement and vibration into the pipe run, causing fatigue cracking at fittings.
It is not advised. The sealing ends work-harden in service and reshaping or refitting frequently results in cracking and leakage.
At every service, checking for hardening, softening, cracking and swelling. Hoses near hot surfaces degrade fastest.
