This group covers cylinder blocks and bare castings, sumps, timing covers, breathers, dipsticks and tubes, plugs and adaptors, and the miscellaneous hardware needed during overhaul. That breadth means the same engine series appears in many different build specifications, so identification against the engine serial number rather than the series designation is important.

The engine serial number identifies the exact build. Perkins supplies the same series in many application-specific specifications, so the series number alone is not enough.
It is stamped on the engine block, usually on a machined pad, and also appears on the engine data plate. Both should match.
Superseded numbers are normally replaced by a current equivalent for the same application. Quoting the original number allows the current reference to be traced.
