Pumps circulate the fluids an engine depends on. Each has its own failure signature: a worn oil pump shows as low pressure once the engine is hot, a failing water pump usually leaks from the weep hole or develops bearing noise, and a tired fuel transfer pump causes hard starting and power loss under load. Because pump failure quickly damages other components — bearings without oil, heads without coolant — declining pump performance is worth acting on early.

Coolant seepage from the weep hole, bearing noise or play at the pulley, and overheating under load are the usual indicators. A leaking weep hole means the internal seal has failed and the pump needs replacing.
Low pressure can come from a worn oil pump, excessive bearing clearance, a stuck pressure relief valve, oil dilution or a blocked pick-up strainer. Confirm with a mechanical gauge before dismantling.
Injection pumps are frequently overhauled and recalibrated by specialist facilities. Calibration on a test bench is essential, as fuelling and timing must be set to the engine's specification.
