Instruments and controls monitor engine condition and govern how it runs, and the protection systems that shut an engine down act entirely on what these components report. This group covers pressure and temperature senders, speed and position sensors, knock sensors, lambda sensors, gas quality sensors, thermostatic switches, gauges and panels, actuators, control modules and switchgear. Gas engine control is more involved than diesel because the system must continuously manage air-fuel ratio and ignition timing against varying gas quality. Knock and lambda sensors feed that loop directly, so a fault in either can move the engine into a damaging operating condition rather than simply producing a warning.
AMS Parts supplies a wide range of instruments & controls components for MWM engines used in power generation, marine, and industrial applications. Browse the full range below, or contact us for specific requirements.
The control system relies on it to retard ignition timing when detonation begins. A failed sensor allows the engine to run in a knocking condition that damages pistons and heads.
It measures exhaust oxygen so the control system can hold the air-fuel ratio at the correct point as gas quality varies. Drift in the sensor moves the whole combustion setting.
Methane number varies significantly in biogas and landfill gas. The control system adjusts timing and mixture in response, and without accurate input it cannot protect the engine.
