In many cases yes. Journals are ground to a defined undersize and fitted with matching undersize bearing shells, provided the shaft is within the manufacturer's regrind limits and free of cracks.
Oil starvation, contaminated oil, incorrect assembly clearances and prolonged low oil pressure are the usual causes. Bearing damage often appears as scoring, embedded debris or loss of the overlay material.
Bearing shells are supplied in standard and undersize grades. The correct grade depends on the journal dimension after any regrinding, so measure the shaft before ordering.
