The air and exhaust system delivers clean combustion air and routes exhaust gas away from the engine. This group covers air filters and housings, inlet manifolds, charge air coolers and intercoolers, throttle and butterfly valves, exhaust manifolds, bellows and flexible sections, silencers, and exhaust gas recirculation components. Restriction on the inlet side raises fuel consumption and exhaust temperature, while leaks on the exhaust side reduce turbocharger efficiency and can allow gas into the engine room. Exhaust manifolds and bellows work through large thermal cycles, so cracking at flange faces and around welds is a routine inspection point on hard-worked engines.
AMS Parts supplies a wide range of air & exhaust components for CAT engines used in power generation, marine, and industrial applications. Browse the full range below, or contact us for specific requirements.
Replace at the manufacturer's interval or sooner in dusty conditions. A restriction indicator or manometer reading gives a better guide than time alone.
Repeated heating and cooling, restrained thermal expansion, and incorrect bolt torque or tightening sequence are the usual causes. Cracks commonly appear at flange faces and section changes.
Vibration, thermal cycling and internal corrosion cause fatigue in the core and end tanks. A pressure test confirms the leak location before replacement.
